A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-EKW performing flight FR-6874 from Barcelona,SP (Spain) to Dublin (Ireland), was in the initial climb out of Barcelona's runway 25L when then the crew declared "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday" reporting an engine (CFM56) failure and shut down and requested an immediate return to runway 25L. The aircraft levelled off at 3000 feet, was vectored for an approach to runway 25R and landed safely back on runway 25R about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the engine ingested a bird and needed to be shut down.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-EVA reached Dublin as flight FR-687 with a delay of 3 hours.
