An Aeromar Avions de Transport Regional ATR-42-500, registration XA-TAI performing flight VW-131 from Mexico City to Acapulco (Mexico) with 46 people on board, was enroute at FL220 in cloud when the aircraft entered a stall. After the aircraft descended into visual meteorological conditions the crew was able to recover the aircraft by visual reference and returned to Mexico City for a safe landing.

The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that Mexico's Accident Investigation Board rated the occurrence a serious incident, category loss of control and inflight abrupt maneouver, and opened an investigation.
