An Aeromar Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration XA-UYY performing flight VW-461 from Mexico City to Colima (Mexico), was climbing through 17,700 feet out of Mexico City when the aircraft received a lightning strike prompting the crew to return to Mexico City. The aircraft landed safely about 30 minutes after departure.

The Mexican AIB rated the occurrence an incident and opened an investigation.
