Helvetic F100 near Berne on May 24th 2012, loss of separation with a helicopter

A Helvetic Fokker 100, registration HB-JVH performing flight 2L-5311 from Kos (Greece) to Berne (Switzerland), was on approach to Berne when a loss of separation, described as close encounter, occurred with a medical helicopter on a ferry flight. Both aircraft continued for safe landings.

Switzerland's Accident Investigation Board (SAIB, also known as Swiss BFU) reported the medical helicopter was on a ferry flight maintaining altitude while the Fokker 100 was descending towards Berne when a "Close encounter between a helicopter and an aircraft" occurred at 13:40L (11:40Z).

Radar data show the Fokker 100 descending through FL170 at 11:40Z, no data are available for the helicopter. The Fokker 100 was descending at about 1500-1800 feet per minute until about FL180 then accelerated the descent to about 2500-3000 feet per minute before the rate of descent reduced again to about 1500 feet per minute.
