An Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300, registration ZK-OKM performing flight NZ-1 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Auckland (New Zealand) with 316 passengers, was enroute at FL290 over the Pacific Ocean about 860nm southwest of Los Angeles about 2 hours into the flight when the crew reported a flight crew member had become sick and they were returning to Los Angeles, a doctor on board attended the ill pilot. The aircraft landed safely on Los Angeles' runway 06L about 3:45 hours after departure.

The flight was postponed to the following day and is estimated to reach Auckland with a delay of 22:15 hours.

The airline confirmed one flight crew member became sick, there were three pilots on board of the aircraft permitting two flight crew to return the aircraft to Los Angeles.

Passengers reported the captain was said to have suffered symptoms of a heart attack.
