A Spicejet Boeing 737-800, registration VT-SPO performing flight SG-451 from Delhi to Mumbai (India) with 175 passengers, had just reached cruise level 340 when the #1 engine (CFM56) failed. The aircraft returned to Delhi for a safe landing about 30 minutes later.

India's DGCA reported that the aircraft had undergone maintenance on the fuel pump of the left hand engine and had departed for its first flight following that maintenance. A screw, which had not been tightened properly during maintenance, caused the loss of fuel pressure and subsequent failure on the left hand engine.

The airline reported a technical malfunction. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
