A Spicejet Boeing 737-800, registration VT-SLF performing flight SG-670 from Mumbai to Kolkata (India), was descending towards Kolkata about 20 minutes prior to landing when the right hand engine (CFM56) emitted a bang and streaks of flame prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 01R about 20 minutes later.

A passenger reported the captain announced a problem with one of the engines.

The airline reported a technical issue during the descent.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Kolkata about 24 hours after landing.
