A Vietjet Airbus A320-200, registration VN-A689 performing flight VJ-8667 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) with 185 people on board, was climbing out of Hanoi when the crew stopped the climb at 10,000 feet reporting a hydraulic failure preventing gear retraction. The aircraft entered a hold at 10,000 feet for about 50 minutes to work the related checklists and burn off fuel before returning to Hanoi for a safe landing about 80 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 3.5 hours on the ground and reached Ho Chi Minh City with a delay of 4.5 hours.

Hanoi's Air Traffic Control reported the crew declared emergency due to hydraulic problems just prior to commencing the approach back to Hanoi.
