A Jet Airways Airbus A330-200, registration VT-JWJ performing flight 9W-229 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Brussels (Belgium), was enroute at FL370 about 140nm east of Gander,NL (Canada) when a male passenger (39), who had been denied further alcohol by cabin crew, began to shout and verbally abuse the flight attendants. When the man attempted to move forward in direction of the cockpit door cabin crew blocked the aisle, the flight crew decided to turn around and divert to Gander. The aircraft landed safely in Gander about 40 minutes later, the unruly passenger was taken into custody by police.

The aircraft reached Brussels with a delay of 4 hours.

Police reported the passenger has been charged with mischief, disturbance and interference with flight crew. They assume he wanted to enter the cockpit to speak with the captain.
