A Jet Airways Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration VT-JCN performing flight 9W-794 from Indore to Delhi (India), was climbing through FL150 out of Indore cleared to climb FL180 about 20 minutes into the flight when the crew stopped the climb and declared emergency due to a right hand engine (PW127) engine fire indication. The crew shut the engine down and discharged one fire bottle. The aircraft returned to Indore for a safe landing about 50 minutes after departure.

India's AIB reported a post flight inspection revealed evidence of fire in the engine nacelle as well as major damage in the turbine section of the engine. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Indore more than 4 weeks later.
