A US Airways Airbus A330-200, registration N282AY performing flight US-797 (dep Jun 4th) from Tel Aviv (Israel) to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was enroute at FL360 about 100nm northeast of Athens (Greece) when the crew decided to divert to Athens reporting fumes on board. While descending towards Athens the crew reported the fumes had disappeared, they continued the approach to Athens however for a safe landing on runway 03L about 30 minutes after leaving FL360.

The aircraft was unable to continue the flight, the remainder of the flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 19 hours then left Athens for positioning flight US-9201 to Philadelphia. The aircraft has not yet resumed service about 42 hours after landing in Athens and 12 hours after landing in Philadelphia.
