A Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N801SY performing flight SY-248 from New York JFK,NY to Minneapolis,MN (USA) with 70 people on board, was in the initial climb out of JFK's runway 13R when the crew, after having been handed off to departure frequency, declared emergency on tower frequency reporting an engine failure. The crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet and positioned for an approach to runway 13L requesting delay vectors due to working checklists just prior to intercepting the localizer runway 13L. The aircraft landed safely on JFK's runway 13L about 30 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.
