A Tiger Airways Airbus A320-200, registration VH-VNP performing flight TT-483 from Adelaide,SA to Melbourne,VI (Australia), was climbing out of Adelaide's runway 23 when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet reporting the failure of the right hand engine (V2527). The aircraft positioned for an immediate return to Adelaide indicating the engine was at idle and a normal landing would occur. The aircraft landed safely on Adelaide's runway 23 about 15 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

The airline initially confirmed only minor technical problems, the safety of passengers was not compromised. Following the release of our report the airline confirmed a compressor stall, the engine was kept running.
