A Sunwing Boeing 737-800, registration C-GOWG performing flight WG-423 from Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 180 people on board, was climbing out of Puerto Plata when the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird resulting in severe vibrations. The crew stopped the climb at 12,000 feet and due to weather diverted to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) for a safe landing on runway 07 about one hour after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported on Oct 25th 2013 that the right hand engine ingested the bird during rotation from Puerto Plata resulting in vibrations of the engine. The aircraft diverted to Punta Cana for a safe landing. Maintenance replaced three fan blades.
