The return flight FR-2038 needed to be postponed to the next day. A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-ENT reached Mallorca with a delay of 11 hours.
The incident aircraft was able to resume service about 14.5 hours after landing.
The airline said the aircraft was struck by lightning just prior to landing. The aircraft could not be immediately repaired for the return flight, the night curfew prevented a departure past 22:00L forcing about half of the passengers to spend the night at the airport on campbeds.
Passengers booked on the return flight reported they were initially told to be bussed to Dusseldorf Weeze Airport and fly out from there, however, that bus never came. Then they were asked for those who needed hotel accomodation but then it was explained all hotels were booked out due to a large trade fair. Finally the airport provided campbeds until the flight departed the next morning.
