A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration JA832J performing flight JL-66 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to San Diego,CA (USA), was enroute at FL390 about 800nm eastnortheast of Tokyo when the crew received indication of a malfunction of the slat system and decided to return to Tokyo. The aircraft landed safely back on Narita's runway 16R about 2 hours later.
