A United Boeing 777-200, registration N78009 performing flight UA-58 from Houston,TX (USA) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), was in the initial climb out of Houston's runway 08L when the crew reported the right hand engine (GE90) had failed. The crew shut the engine down, stopped the climb at 4000 feet, dumped fuel and returned to Houston for a safe landing on runway 09 about one hour after departure.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N77014 reached Amsterdam with a delay of 4:50 hours.
