A First Air Boeing 737-200, registration C-FNVK performing flight 7F-300 from Winnipeg,MB to Rankin Inlet,NU (Canada) with 28 people on board, was enroute at FL330 nearing the top of descent when the crew received an overheat indication for the left hand engine (JT8D), worked the relevant checklists and shut the engine down. The aircraft continued to Rankin Inlet for a safe landing about 50 minutes later.

The return flight 7F-301 was cancelled.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance is inspecting the aircraft.
