A NORRA Nordic Regional Airlines Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A on behalf of Finnair, registration OH-ATJ performing flight AY-489 from Helsinki to Kuusamo (Finland), was enroute at FL190 about 190nm northnortheast of Helsinki when the crew detected problems with the left hand engine (PW127F) and decided to return to Helsinki, the engine was shut down. The aircraft descended to FL130 and landed safely back on Helsinki's runway 16 about 80 minutes later.

The airline reported a technical fault.

Passengers reported the captain announced they were flying on single engine.

A replacement ATR-72-212A registration OH-ATE reached Kuusamo with a delay of about 4 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Helsinki about 8 hours after landing.
