A Braathens Regional Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-500 on behalf of SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Golden Air, registration SE-MDI performing flight DC-4354/SK-4354 from Helsinki to Vaasa (Finland), was in the initial climb out of Helsinki's Vantaa Airport when upon retracting the flaps the aircraft encountered stall, one wing dropped rapidly, the aircraft lost height and entered a large bank angle before the crew was able to recover the aircraft. The flight was continued to destination for a landing without further incident maintaining routine communication.

Finland's Onnettomuustutkintakeskus (Accident Investigation Board of Finland AIBF) reported, Finland's Civil Aviation Authority and the AIBF were informed about the event by a passenger about a week later. The AIBF received a safety report from the incident crew this month (March). The investigation proves difficult as all data pertinent to the flight (flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder) are no longer available, the AIBF however anticipates data off the flight data monitoring due to arrive shortly will permit some more knowledge about the sequence of events next week (starting April 1st) and will permit an assessment how serious the event was. Sweden's Civil Aviation Authority, Finland's CAA, AIBF and Sweden's Haverikommission (SAIB) are cooperating in the investigation.

Sources had told The Aviation Herald, that the aircraft had not been de-iced prior to departure. Shortly after becoming airborne, while retracting the flaps, one wing of the aircraft stalled resulting in the aircraft losing height and reaching a large bank angle. The crew was able to recover the aircraft and continued the flight to destination without mentioning the occurrence, obviously believing they had encountered wake turbulence. Some time later an off duty pilot, travelling as passenger on the aircraft, reported the event to authorities, which resulted in the SAIB to open an investigation into the occurrence.
