A China West Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration B-321R performing flight PN-6213 from Chongqing to Sanya (China) with 230 people on board, was climbing out of Chongqing's runway 03L when the crew stopped the climb at about 6900 meters (FL226). The aircraft subsequently returned to Chongqing for a safe landing on runway 03R about one hour after departure.

Passengers reported they observed no anomaly until the crew announced an issue with the aircraft and later a mechanical problem.

The airline reported the crew received a warning indication of a mechanical problem while climbing through about 7000 meters.
