An Air France Airbus A330-200, registration F-GZCO performing flight AF-498 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Sint Maarten (Sint Maarten), was enroute at FL370 over the Atlantic Ocean about 80nm westsouthwest of Lajes (Portugal) when the crew initiated oceanic contingency procedures and drifted the aircraft down after one of the engines (CF6) was shut down in flight. The aircraft subsequently turned around and diverted to Lajes for a safe landing on runway 15 about 30 minutes later.

Air France dispatched a Boeing 777-200 registration F-GSPD to Lajes on Nov 27th 2025 to take the passengers back to Paris Charles de Gaulle via flight AF-4195.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground at Lajes/Terceira Island about 27 hours after landing.

The airline reported the passengers are going to be assisted in Paris with hotel accomodation and rebooking of flights after arrival back in Paris.
