An Easyjet Switzerland Airbus A319-100, registration HB-JZJ performing flight U2-1327 from Geneva (Switzerland) to Venice (Italy), was on final approach to Venice's runway 04R about 3nm before touchdown at approx 18:35L (17:35Z) when the aircraft went around, climbed to 5000 feet and diverted to Triest (Italy), where the aircraft landed safely on runway 09 about 35 minutes later.

Sources told The Aviation Herald on Feb 20th that the aircraft had sustained a severe lightning strike some time during the flight causing substantial damage to the aircraft.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Triest until Feb 15th, then was ferried to Switzerland, where the aircraft remained on the ground until Feb 22nd before the aircraft resumed service.

Italy's ANSV told The Aviation Herald on Feb 28th 2013 in response to our inquiry of Feb 20th 2013, that they had no knowledge of the occurrence and asked for more details, which The Aviation Herald provided.

Swiss SUST (Schweizerische UntersuchungsSTelle) told The Aviation Herald on Mar 4th 2013 in response to our inquiry of Feb 28th, that they had been informed about the occurrence as described above and are in contact with Italy's ANSV to determine whether there will be an investigation by the ANSV.

Easyjet did not find it necessary to respond to The Aviation Herald's questions.
