A Lauda Europe Airbus A320-200 on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-LAX performing flight FR-2185 from Zagreb (Croatia) to Malta (Malta), was on approach to Malta when the crew declared PAN PAN due to an engine (CFM56) failure and shut the engine down. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Malta's runway 31.

Passengers reported grinding noises and serious vibrations of the airframe, the captain announced they had a problem with one of the engines and emergency services would be awaiting the aircraft.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Malta about 51 hours after landing.
