A Jazz Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of Air Canada, registration C-GJAN performing flight AC-8851 from Montreal,QC (Canada) to Minneapolis,MN (USA), was climbing through FL160 out of Montreal when the crew received a split elevator indication. The crew declared PAN PAN, worked the related checklists and returned to Montreal for a safe landing.

The aircraft returned to service 42 hours after landing.
