An Iran Airtours McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration EP-MDE performing flight B9-951 from Tabriz to Mashad (Iran) with 101 people on board, was climbing through about FL200 out of Tabriz when the crew stopped the climb due to the failure of the right hand engine (JT8D), shut it down and returned to Tabriz for a safe landing.

According to information The Aviation Herald received both high pressure turbine and low pressure turbine were damaged.
