An American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration N501AA performing flight AA-627 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Denver,CO (USA), was climbing out of Dallas Ft. Worth when the crew received a tail compartment high temperature indication (indicative of a possible bleed air leak), stopped the climb at FL210 and decided to return to Dallas Ft. Worth. During the descent the indication extinguished. The aircraft landed safely in Dallas Ft. Worth about 16 minutes after stopping the climb.

A replacement MD-82 reached Denver with a delay of 2:15 hours.
