A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200N, registration D-AIEO performing flight LH-691 from Tel Aviv (Israel) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was enroute at FL360 about 160nm southeast of Zagreb (Croatia) when the crew reported the failure of the right hand engine (PW1133G) and shut the engine down subsequently also reporting an oil leak on the right hand engine. The aircraft drifted down to FL200 and diverted to Zagreb for a safe landing on runway 04 about 35 minutes after leaving FL360.

A replacement Airbus A321-100 registration D-AIRU positioned from Frankfurt/Main to Zagreb and delivered the passengers to Frankfurt with a delay of about 5:45 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Zagreb about 10 hours after landing.
