An Austrian Airlines Fokker 70, registration OE-LFG performing flight OS-536 from Bologna (Italy) to Vienna (Austria), was on approach to Vienna's runway 34 when the crew went around reporting an unsafe left main gear indication and entered a hold at 6000 feet to run the relevant checklists without resolving the unsafe indication. About 40 minutes later the aircraft performed a low approach to runway 29 to have the gear inspected from the ground, all gear struts appeared in their normal down position. The aircraft subsequently positioned for another approach to runway 29 and landed safely about 50 minutes after aborting the first approach.

The airline told Austrianwings that the left hand main gear was not indicated locked into position, the crew aborted the approach and actioned the relevant procedures including using the alternate gear extension. The crew subsequently performed an overflight to have the gear checked from the ground and landed safely. In most of these cases it is a faulty indication, in this case it was probably a dirty sensor.
