An Austrian Airlines Fokker 70, registration OE-LFG performing flight OS-659 from Vienna (Austria) to Rostov (Russia) with 75 passengers and 4 crew, was climbing out of Vienna when the crew received indication one of the gear doors did not lock properly and decided to return to Vienna for a safe landing on runway 16.

A replacement Fokker 70 registration OE-LFL reached Rostov with a delay of 4 hours.

The airline reported the crew received a "gear lock switch message" referring to one of the gear doors. The flight could have been safely continued, however, the crew decided to return in consultation with dispatch due to non-availability of own maintenance personnel in Rostov as a safety precaution.
