A Citilink Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PK-GAD performing a flight from Karachi (Pakistan) to Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), was climbing out of Karachi's runway 25R when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet, shut the left hand engine (PW127M) down and returned to Karachi for a safe landing on runway 25L about 18 minutes after departure.

The aircraft, formerly owned by Garuda Indonesia, had positioned to Karachi from Indonesia on Jul 26th and Jul 27th 2023 and had been on the ground in Karachi since. The aircraft, in Citilink colours, is still on the ground about 58 hours after landing back.

On Sep 1st 2023 Pakistan's AAIB reported the aircraft was climbing through 4300 feet when the crew reported problems with the left hand engine, about a minute later they declared emergency reporting damage to the #1 engine and shut the engine down. The aircraft positioned for an ILS approach to runway 25L, reported the nature of the technical problem was damage to one of the left engine's gear boxes. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated.
