A Skywest Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of United, registration N909EV performing flight UA-4741 from Fargo,ND to Denver,CO (USA) with 48 people on board, was enroute at FL320 about 20nm southeast of Pierre,SD (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Pierre reporting an engine (CF34) failure. The aircraft landed safely on Pierre's runway 31 about 25 minutes later.

A replacement CRJ-200 registration N930SW reached Denver with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 20 hours before returning to service.
