A United Boeing 767-300, registration N641UA performing flight UA-129 from Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA) to Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil) with 160 people on board, was climbing out of Houston's runway 15L when the next departure reported there had been fire from the left hand engine. The United crew confirmed they had lost their #1 engine (PW4060) but had no fire indication. The aircraft levelled off at about 3000 feet and returned to Houston for a safe landing on runway 15L about 13 minutes after departure.

The airline reported an unspecified mechanical issue.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Houston about 13 hours after landing.
