A SATA Air Acores de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration CS-TRE performing flight SP-407 from Lajes to Ponta Delgada (Portugal), had lined up runway 33 via taxiway A and had been cleared for takeoff from Lajes' runway 33 when about 45 seconds after the takeoff clearance tower cancelled the takeoff clearance. The aircraft rejected takeoff at high speed. Tower subsequently explained a vehicle was showing on the runway at taxiway J (at the end of the runway about and asked whether the aircraft could accept a departure from runway 15. The crew advised they needed to cool down their brakes first.

About 8 minutes after the rejected takeoff the crew reported ready for departure, turned around and departed on runway 15 landing safely in Ponta Delgada with a delay of about one hour, 45 minutes of which were caused by late arrival into Terceira Acores Island (Lajes) on the incoming flight.

The airline reported the aircraft rejected takeoff on instruction of tower in the early stages of takeoff as conditions were not met to continue with the takeoff.
