The airline reported the passenger wouldn't even had noticed the electrical discharge. The aircraft however had to be taken out of service and needs to be repaired due to cracks as result of the lighting strike being detected.
No Metars are available for both aerodromes at the time of the occurrence. Metars at Ponta Delgada were available until about 6 hours prior to landing, then became all "NIL" messages and became available again about 4 hours after landing. The local weather station at Ponta Delgada reported 20 degrees Celsius, dew point 18 degrees C, QNH 1012 hPA and easterly winds at 18 kph (10 knots) at 18:00L (18:00Z), however did not deliver any data for precipitation and clouds, too.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Ponta Delgada about 48 hours after landing.
