A SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A320-200N, registration EI-SIC performing flight SK-681 from Copenhagen (Denmark) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was on final approach to Rome's runway 16L descending through about 200 feet AGL just with the gear extended, flaps and slats still retracted and at about 230 knots over ground, when the crew initiated a go around reaching the lowest altitude of about 150 feet. The aircraft climbed to 3000 feet, positioned for another approach to runway 16L and landed safely, with flaps, slats and gear extended about 10 minutes after the go around.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Rome for about 90 minutes, then performed the return flight to Copenhagen.

According to information The Aviation Herald received the aircraft was fast and hot on the approach and eventually lowered the gear first descending through 175 feet at 1280 fpm sinkrate and a speed of 226 knots over ground.
