A PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N600NN performing flight AA-5548 from Tallahassee,FL to Charlotte,NC (USA) with 51 people on board, was climbing out of Tallahassee's runway 09 when the crew requested delay vectors and advised they needed to return to Tallahassee, they had a tyre problem. The crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet, worked a number of checklists and subsequently advised ATC, that they heard a bang on departure and had some tyre smell, so at the best they can figure out, they had a tyre problem. The crew declared emergency and requested services to respond. Approach offered a gear inspection from the ground, the crew instantly queried the night time and whether a low pass would make any sense, the controller responded "Touche!". The aircraft landed safely on runway 09 about 35 minutes after departure. The aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Tallahassee for about 41 hours, then positioned to Charlotte and resumed service.
