An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N961NN performing flight AA-2124 (dep Nov 22nd) from Phoenix,AZ (USA) to Guadalajara (Mexico), was on approach to Guadalajara when the crew aborted the descent at about 7500 feet due to a problem with the slats, climbed back to 13,000 feet and entered a hold while working the checklists. The aircraft subsequently positioned for another approach to Guadalajara and landed safely on Guadalajara's runway 29 at a significantly higher speed than normal (about 195 knots over ground) about 30 minutes after aborting the first approach.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Guadalajara for about 35 hours, then positioned back to Phoenix. The aircraft remained on the ground in Phoenix for another 19 hours before returning to service.
