An Eastern Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N703KW performing flight 2D-3160 from Shannon (Ireland) to Savannah Hunter Air Force Base,GA (USA) with 140 people on board, was enroute at FL280 in Gander Oceanic Airspace about 380nm northnortheast of Goose Bay,NL (Canada) when the crew reported an electrical burning/overheating odour in the cockpit and requested to divert to Goose Bay. The aircraft landed safely on Goose Bay's runway 26 about one hour later.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the left hand nav display's cooling duct clogged with dust and debris causing arcing. After cleaning the duct the aircraft was returned to service.
