A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AIDE performing flight LH-195 from Berlin Tegel to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) with 199 passengers and 6 crew, was in the initial climb out of Tegel's runway 08R when the right hand engine (V2533) emitted a number of bangs and streaks of flames prompting the crew to level off at 3000 feet, shut the engine down and return to Tegel for a safe landing on runway 08L about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration D-AIZH reached Frankfurt with a delay of 2 hours.

The airport reported the A321 returned due to engine trouble, about 20 of the 200 passengers chose to not continue.

Passengers reported hearing about 2 or 3 bangs and streaks of flames.

Post flight inspections revealed multiple bird strikes to the engine, wing and flaps, the birds were identified as geese.
