A Republic Airlines Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of US Airways, registration N119HQ performing flight YX-3284/US-3284 from Key West,FL to Charlotte,NC (USA) with 72 passengers and 4 crew, was in the initial climb out of Key West when a bird impacted the aircraft. The crew levelled off at 3000 feet, entered a hold at first and diverted to Fort Myers,FL 120nm north of Key West for a safe landing about 75 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A319-100 is being dispatched from Charlotte to Fort Myers' Southwest Florida Airport to continue the flight and is estimated to reach Charlotte with a delay of 4.5 hours.

The airline reported the crew received some abnormal indications as result of the bird strike shortly after takeoff and diverted to Fort Myers.

Passengers believe the bird struck at the right hand wing.
