A United Boeing 787-9, registration N25982 performing flight UA-46 from Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was on approach to Frankfurt when the crew declared PAN PAN due to a flaps problem. The aircraft was vectored for an ILS approach to runway 25C. When the crew checked in with tower, tower advised emergency services were on standby, the crew advised they wouldn't need the emergency equipment, however, it would be a "long landing" because they were flying faster. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 25C at a higher than normal speed (166 knots over ground), slowed safely and taxied to the apron.

The emergency forced another aircraft to perform two unexpected 360ies, this aircraft received a lightning strike on final afterwards, see Incident: Lufthansa E190 at Frankfurt on May 5th 2021, lightning strike.

A replacement Boeing 787-9 registration N29975, initially assigned to perform flight UA-906, performed the return flight UA-47 on schedule.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 6.5 hours, then departed for flight UA-906 to Chicago O'Hare and is estimated to reach Chicago with a delay of 5 hours.
