A United Boeing 757-200, registration N29124 performing a ferry flight UA-6857 from Stuttgart (Germany) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 3 crew, was enroute over the Atlantic Ocean (after having entered the Oceanic Airspace at FL390) when the #2 engine experienced power surges running down to idle and back to commanded power. The crew executed the relevant checklist procedures, set the engine to idle thrust, performed oceanic contingency procedures to descend the aircraft to FL280 and diverted to Gander,NL (Canada) for a safe landing on single engine.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance replaced the #2 fuel flow governor and the #1 P1 probe and returned the aircraft to service.
