A Commutair Embraer ERJ-145 on behalf of United, registration N12172 performing flight UA-4892 from Washington Dulles,DC to Knoxville,TN (USA), was on a 1nm final to Knoxville's runway 05R when the crew they had hit a bird. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 05R. After landing the crew reported they saw one bird, probably a small one.

The FAA reported the aircraft received minor damage when the aircraft sustained a bird strike on final approach.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 12 hours before departing for the next flight.
