A Norwegian Air Shuttle Boeing 737-800, registration LN-NGS performing flight DY-413 from Aalesund to Oslo (Norway), was climbing out of Aalesund's runway 06 when the left hand engine (CFM56) emitted a loud bang followed by sparks. The crew stopped the climb at about FL134, shut the engine down and returned to Aalesund for a safe landing on runway 06 about 30 minutes after departure.

Airport and police reported an emergency landing due to an engine failure.

The airline reported the aircraft performed a safety landing after the crew detected some technical malfunction.

Passengers reported there was a huge bang, the aircraft shuddered, subsequently sparks could be seen flying from the engine.
