An American Airlines McDonnell MD-82, registration N474 performing flight AA-1258 from Los Angeles,CA to Saint Louis,MO (USA), was climbing through 15,000 feet out of Los Angeles when the crew received a tail compartment high temperature indication and stopped the climb. The aircraft returned to Los Angeles for an overweight but safe landing on runway 25L about 22 minutes after departure.

A replacement MD-83 registration N76202 reached Saint Louis with a delay of 11.5 hours.
