An ANZ Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300, registration ZK-OKS performing flight NZ-8 from Auckland (New Zealand) to San Francisco,CA (USA), was enroute at FL350 about 120nm east of Honolulu,HI (USA) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Honolulu advising ATC no emergency or urgency would be declared and no assistance on the ground was needed. The aircraft landed safely on Honolulu's runway 08R about 35 minutes later.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted due to an engineering fault related to the aircraft's oil system.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 24 hours, then departed to continue to San Francisco as flight NZ-6008.
