A Webjet Boeing 737-300, registration PR-WJD performing flight WH-6796 from Rio de Janeiro,RJ to Brasilia,DF (Brazil), was enroute at FL340 about one hour into the flight when the aircraft entered an emergency descent to FL100 and the passenger oxygen masks were released. The aircraft subsequently continued to Brasilia for a safe landing about 40 minutes later.

A passenger reported that the passenger oxygen mask was problematic because the release pin needed a lot of force before the oxygen flow started. The passenger later added that he felt ear pain just prior to noticing the aircraft began an early but normal descent. The captain illuminated the fasten seat belt signs announcing they anticipated turbulence ahead, a short time later - after everybody got seated - the rate of descent increased to an emergency descent and the oxygen masks were released, the passengers mask however could not be activated until he pulled it down with his full body weight.
