A Webjet Boeing 737-300, flight WH-5818 from Rio de Janeiro Galeao,RJ to Florianopolis,SC and further on to Porto Alegre,RS (Brazil), was enroute when the captain's windshield developed cracks. The crew decided to skip Florianopolis and continue to Porto Alegre, where the aircraft landed safely about 2 hours after departure from Rio de Janeiro. Passengers to Florianopolis were rebooked onto other flights and reached Florianopolis with a delay of 3.5 hours. The airline reported following the cracked windshield the crew decided to continue to Porto Alegre to use the longer runway available there, at the time Florianopolis offered only a runway of 1500 meters/4900 feet length. Florianopolis offers a runway 03/21 of 1500 meters/4900 feet length and a second runway 14/32 of 2300 meters/7540 feet length. Runway 03/21 is currently NOTAMed closed, no restrictions are NOTAMed for runway 14/32. Porto Alegre offers a runway 11/29 of 2280 meters length/7480 feet length.
