A Safarilink de Havilland Dash 8-200, registration 5Y-SLM performing scheduled flight #1 from Nairobi Wilson to Maasai Mara Kichwa Tembo (Kenya), landed at Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in westerly direction at about 11:00L (08:00) but collided with a number of gnus (also known as Wildebeests) causing the left main gear to collapse and separate from the aircraft, the left propeller impacted ground ejecting one blade, and the aircraft veered left off the runway. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The airline confirmed the aircraft 5Y-SLM collided with a number of Wildebeests on landing at Kichwa Tembo Airstrip of Maasai Mara and suffered substantial damage. The passengers and crew are safe and uninjured.

Ground observers reported the gnus started to run across the runway just as the aircraft had touched down.
